Enlightenment

Bohai, having joined Melanie and James on their bridge of understanding, sat once more with James on the shoreline of the Pearl River near their humble siheyuan.

He spoke quietly.

{“James when you received the piece, I carved that you bought from the Ching Dynasty Collection, do you remember the words that were written there?

May it bring you; Enlightenment, Happiness and Good fortune.”}

As Bohai’s wisdom flowed, James understood Enlightenment and why he had traveled from New York in 2020 to Canton in 1775.

{“All things change

The sun does not set until it has first risen.

The sun does not rise on a new day before it has set on the old.

The present is not possible without the past.

The future cannot come until the past has gone.

All things change.

All things must pass.

To be now; be the past.

The future can be as you wish it to be.”}

They meditated together in silence.
