The killing of a King

The brutal death of King James I of Scotland.

Holding the pendant of the Clan Robertson they gazed at the crest – The Crown of Scotland held high above the shield and the wild man in chains adopted in commemoration of the capture of the King’s assassins Robert Graham and the Kings uncle, Walter Stewart the Earl of Atholl, on that dark night of February 20th 1437.

“This motto Mel ‘Virtutis Gloria Merces’ means ‘Glory is the reward of valor’. It must have been a horrific night for Queen Joan who was wounded. I wonder if Robert Robertson who captured and held them, also helped her to escape to Edinburgh Castle?

The history goes that she and young James escaped to France until it was safe to return to Scotland when James regained the throne as James II.”

“Amazing history James! I guess we’ll get some of the answers. Do you think it will be safe for us to go there?”

“I’m sure it will Mel, we’ll watch in from a distance. Anyway, I’ll keep you safe my love; I’ll take a claymore with us!” James grinned.

“We’ll blend in. What are you going to wear?” he giggled. “I have the perfect kilt picked out.”

They fell about laughing.
