The central jewel, hand carved in exquisite 200-year-old mother of pearl, depicts a uniquely carved and extremely detailed scene of four people from an era long ago in a garden and pergola setting. One of those depicted carrying a water yoke across an ornate bridge. The outer floral border also intricately carved, is simply exquisite. Words are insufficient to describe the detail achieved by its artist.
The other side is equally breathtaking in its attention to detail of the outer rings surrounding the painstakingly intricate back hatching around the monogram – initials MAP of the nobleman who must have commission this piece to be made circa 1810 during the last Dynasty of Imperial China.
