Many questions to ask

Arriving back at the apartment from her morning run in Central Park, Melanie showered, dressed and made her coffee; strong and black.

Picking up the remote from the coffee table she switched on the news of the day.

She felt Marie’s hand on hers.

“Bonjour ma soeur."

{“Good morning my sister.”} she smiled.

They sat in silence as the headlines of the day were solemnly presented by the news anchor.

More hatred being spread around the world.

Conflict on the streets of Hong Kong.

Political unrest in countries from Puerto Rico, the US, the UK and armed conflicts at too many places to comprehend.

She felt Marie tense up as the stories unfolded.

{“What has happened to this world?” questioned Marie

“So much hatred; so much hurt and pain!”}

Melanie answered.

{“This is the reality we now live in my sister.”} Melanie answered.

{“I wish it were otherwise but the choices so many people have made has given us our world as it is.

I wish it could be different but people make choices and we live by the consequences. The outcomes are not what we would have wished for, or wanted.””}

A tear formed in the corner of Marie’s eye.

Marie asked solemnly.

{“If you could go back and change one thing in history Melanie, what would it be?”} Marie asked solemnly.

Melanie exclaimed without a second of hesitation.

{“I would change the outcome of your life Marie of course!”} Melanie exclaimed without a second of hesitation.

{“No, my sister, I understand that, but what would you change to change the world? To make it better than it has become?”}

{“I wouldn’t know where to start Marie. There are as many answers to that, as there are stars in the night sky.”}

{“So, pick a star and become the power of one my sister. It can only change if you believe you are the one to start on that journey. As you say People make choices.”}
