Serenity to chaos
The beauty of Canton in 1775 to the chaos in the streets of New York in 2020 were the extremes of reality.
“James the City is in virtual lockdown, what are we going to do?”
“This is something we have never experienced in our travels throughout history Mel!
We have seen the killing of a King in 1478, the Jacobite rebellions, the execution of Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI in 1791 and so many other things gone by; but we have never seen our future.
This is the end of our world as we knew it.”
They sat for hours on the apartment terrace as the sirens sounded in the streets below. Stay at home was the call.
“I don’t want to be here James; the heartbreak is too great to bear.” whimpered Melanie. “Hold me!”
Nestled in each other’s arms with eyes closed and memories relived they slept.
Bohai greeted them warmly.
“我的朋友們從遙遠的未來來,和我一起坐。 我們的朋友春豪回來了!”
{“My friends from the future so far away, come and sit with me. Chunhau our friends have returned!”} he called out gleefully.
“媚蘭!”
{“Melanie!”} Chunhau exclaimed as she came past the rice paper screen door.
“我為您創作了一部新曲。 你一定要聽! 我會為我們泡茶,然後為您喝茶。”
{“I have composed a new piece for you. You must hear it! I will make some tea for us and play it for you.”}
Melanie’s eyes filled. “James, I want to stay here until the world we live in has learned to love as it did.”
James gripped her hand and smiled. “Me too!”
Bohai gave his blessing as they sat together in silence to listen to Chunhau play.
“讓古代人的音樂通過愛流進人心。 不要讓痛苦或仇恨進入這個地方,因為這裡不受歡迎。”
{“Let the music of the ancients flow through love into the hearts of man. Let no pain or hate enter this place, for it is not welcome here.”}
His head bowed.
Chunhau played.
