Journeys
Canton 1775 to New York 2020.
Dressing for dinner and the show the dress Melanie had bought in Chinatown and her Queen Charlotte pendant looked just perfect.
“Oh my God Melanie! Can we stay home???” James exclaimed when he saw her.
“Steady James; in the words of the great enlightened ‘All will be revealed in time’” giggled Melanie
“You look as incredible as you did on our wedding day in Versailles in 1789, just a little more Asian now than French.” James chuckled.
Getting into the cab, James gave the address. “95 Bowery Street, the ‘Yummy Palace’ Chinese restaurant thanks driver”
Smiling the driver said in Chinese
“這將是我的榮幸,先生。”
{“It will be my pleasure sir.”}
James looked puzzled; but Melanie smiled.
The young waitress who had served Melanie earlier in the day greeted them as they entered the restaurant.
“我很高興再次與您打招呼。 為您服務是我的悠久傳統。”
}“I am pleased to greet you again. It is my honour from ancient tradition to serve you.”}
Bringing Chinese tea and a feast of delicate jiaozi, James had nothing to say but; “This is delicious Mel!”
“A taste of a future to come from a time long ago my love.” grinned Melanie.
The restaurant owner and owner of the Chuan Kung Music Palace theatre, approached their table.
“Excuse me for my intrusion, but is your pendant from the last dynasty of Imperial China.?”
“I believe it was hand carved in Canton China in 1780 for the Queen of Great Britain.” said Melanie proudly.
“是的,我相信藝術家是渤海。”
{“Yes, I believe the artist was Bohai.”}
He smiled, bowed politely and walked away.
“What?” James said with astonishment.
“The plot thickens my love.” grinned Melanie
Sitting in their seats in the front row of the theatre as the lights came up and the exquisite music commenced, Melanie turned to James and said.
“That is Spring Flowers - Chunhau! I know her!!!”
“Who?”
“It’s Bohai’s daughter! I’ll tell you later!”
