The central jewel, hand carved in exquisite mother of pearl, depicts a uniquely carved and exquisitely detailed scene of three people from an era of perfection and tranquility in a beautiful garden and pergola scene. The outer floral border is also intricately carved and is simply breathtaking. Words fail to adequately describe the striking detail achieved by its artist.

The other side is equally breathtaking in its attention to detail of the outer rings surrounding the intricate back hatching around the monogram – initials of the nobleman MAP who must have commissioned this piece to be made in Canton circa 1810 during the last Dynasty of Imperial China.
